Preplan Checklist
Getting Started with Preplanning
Dealing with the loss of a loved one can be overwhelming for your surviving family and friends, but preplanning your cemetery arrangements can help them better manage that stress when the time comes.
Choose Your Cemetery Wishes
Preplanning your cemetery arrangements eases the burden on your loved ones and helps ensure your final wishes are honored. While some families struggle with these decisions after losing someone, yours won't have to.
- Decide whether you'd prefer burial or cremation
- Choose where you'd like to rest - including which section and plot at Aransas Memorial Park feels right to you.
- Meet with our staff to explore marker and memorial options.
- If you haven't chosen a funeral home yet, we're glad to help point you toward one.
- Write an obituary, or make notes on what you'd like included - this can also become your online memorial page.
Choose Who You Want to be in Charge
Your family and friends want to help you fulfill your final wishes - they just need instructions on what to do.
- Make sure someone, ideally your executor, has a copy of your will
- Give a family member or trusted friend a list of important account information, along with a record of your cemetery and memorial wishes.
- Designate someone to be your power of attorney
- Have someone prepared to handle canceling basic utility services and subscriptions.
Choose to Pay in Advance
Deciding on your cemetery arrangements in advance can benefit you and your family financially. When possible, we recommend prepaying for your cemetery plot and associated fees. We offer flexible financing on plot purchases, so paying in advance doesn't have to mean paying all at once.
